Education has a key role in eradicating poverty: it helps people obtain decent work and raises their incomes, and generates productivity gains that fuel economic development. Education is one of the most potent ways of improving individuals’ health – and of making sure the benefits are passed on to future generations.

Against a background of changing labour markets, growing unemployment, aging labour forces, migration and technological advancements, all countries are facing the need to develop people’s knowledge and skills for decent work, entrepreneurship and life. The Fijian government has instituted “The Technical College of Fiji” [TCF] as an initiative for the ordinary Fijians to get the education and training that provides skills to compete in today's competitive technical job market.

In 2015, the Ministry of Education established three Technical Colleges, with one campus in Labasa, one in Nadi and two campuses in Suva. Each Campus provides inviting and stimulating learning environments for both personal and professional development. Eight more Technical College Campuses has opened up in 2016 to reach out to more Fijians. This has resulted from the closure of some the Vocational Centres around Fiji and students of these closed centres have to enrol in nearby Technical College Campuses or Technical Centres.

The quality of programmes offered at TCF has accreditation from the Fiji Higher Education Commission and is most affordable. While Certificate II Programmes is available through the Tertiary Education Loan scheme, Short courses are offered for free for the public. The entry requirement is a minimum qualification of Year 10/Form 4 level or with no formal qualification but have relevant work experience.

In support of its educational programs and services the TCF offers comprehensive student development services to all who seek to better their lives through education. In an atmosphere of shared values, TCF encourages creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness among its students, faculty, staff, and administrators. With a commitment to excellence, the TCF creates a positive, student-centered environment. The College empowers individuals by enabling them to learn and to develop throughout their lifetimes.
